Print From Claude, ChatGPT or Any MCP Client
Want to tell Claude "print this" and have paper come out of the office printer? AutoPrintEmail runs an MCP server. Any assistant that speaks MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, your own agent) can list your printers and print text or PDFs on your team's computers.
Table of Contents
What you need
- An AutoPrintEmail Team with at least one computer running the desktop app.
- A printer set up for the API on that computer: in the desktop app, open Manage Connections > API printers > Set up a printer and give it a name like "Front desk".
- An API key: on the web, Team > Integrations > API & automation > Create key. Copy it; it is shown once.
Connect the server
The server address is:
Send the API key as a bearer token. How you enter that depends on the client.
Claude (web and desktop): Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector. Paste the URL. When asked how to authenticate, choose the API key or bearer option and paste your ape_live_... key.
Cursor and other MCP clients with a config file:
Your own agent: any MCP client library with streamable HTTP transport. Set the Authorization: Bearer header on every request.
The tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
list_printers | Lists the printers your team set up, with the computer each one is on. Call this first. |
print_text | Prints plain text as an A4 page, with an optional heading. |
print_pdf | Prints a PDF from a public https URL or from base64 content, up to 10 MB. |
get_print_job | Status of a job: pending, ready, printing, printed or failed. |
With one printer set up, the assistant can leave the target out. With several, it picks one from list_printers. Pass a reference (an order number, say) and the same reference is never printed twice, even if the assistant retries.
Try it
Once connected, ask your assistant:
List my printers, then print "Hello from Claude" on the front desk one.
The job is queued at once and the computer prints it within about 30 seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Does my document pass through the AI company? The text or PDF the assistant sends goes from the assistant to AutoPrintEmail and on to your computer. What the assistant itself retains is governed by that assistant's own terms.
Can the assistant print anywhere? Only on computers in the team that owns the API key, and only to printers that team set up for the API. Revoking the key stops it immediately.
Is this the same as the Zapier app? Same API underneath. Zapier is for automations that run on their own; MCP is for an assistant acting on a request.
